The American Silver Eagle Coin is the United State Mint's $1 coin made of silver bullion for collectors. Initially minted in 1986, it has been produced every year since. This paved the way for silver and gold bullion coins to be sold to the general public. Due to the fact that the actual weight, content, and purity of these coins are certified by the United States government, they have been deemed the official silver bullion of the U.S and are sought after by investors and bullion coin enthusiasts around the globe.

One side of the coin has been borrowed from the Walking Liberty half dollar, and was developed by Adolph Weinman. A lot of people think that this depiction is most appealing designs ever created for a silver coin, so it was an appropriate selection. Sculptor John Mercanti designed the other side of the coin, which shows an eagle carrying a shield.

Three branches of the United States mint, in New York West Point, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, produce the American Silver Eagle dollar coins. The initials "P", "S", and "W" indicate in which mint each coin was made. The weight of the American Eagle silver dollar is 31.103 grams, its thickness is 2.98mm, and its diameter is 40.0mm. The United States government certifies the weight and makeup of the coin, making it an easy purchase to make due to the guaranteed content.

In addition to individual coins, distinctive proof sets of American Silver Eagle dollars are produced. People who collect coins covet these sets.

Of all the silver coins ever minted throughout the history of the United States, the American Silver Eagle dollars are certainly one of the most beautiful.
