American Eagle gold coin?
Question by : American Eagle gold coin?
I was looking for an American Eagle gold coin from 1956 for a gift. I'm finding out that the US didn't mint any gold coins during that era. Is this true?
Can someone suggest an alternative coin from 1956? I prefer it to be an American coin but I will consider all alternatives I really want a gold coin but a silver dollar may also work & be a lot less expensive.
It needs to be at least the size of a silver dollar so that it can be seen if displayed on a desk or credenza.
Grade doesn't matter as it's a gift not really for an investment.
A web site where I can purchase such a coin would be appreciated.
Thank You
John

No gold coin minted in 1956 and no silver dollar minted in 1956 by the US Treasury.

Does the condition of a bullion coin affect its value?
Question by : Does the condition of a bullion coin affect its value?
I have a 1987 American Silver Eagle, it is in pretty bad condition, scratches all over, dirt around the edges, dents, you name it, it has it. So I was thinking of selling some of my silver, and on the list to sell is my Silver Eagle, I was wondering if the dents and dirt and scratches will affect what I get for it. Anything would help, thank you.

Although some people do collect the silver eagle series most view them as bullion pieces. A beat up piece like yours will have no collector value but the condition of the coin should have no affect on the melt value of the piece. The price of silver today is around $ 18.20 per ounce.
