It is no wonder why the American Silver Eagle coins are widely sought after and have come to be extremely valuable. Over the past two years, this annually released coins' production has been reduced in its varieties available or completely halted. The 2008 uncirculated coins sold over 444,000 before it's production to purchase them separately was ended. Instead they were only available in an United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar coin Set. This set included the uncirculated Eagle along with four 2008 uncirculated $1 President coins commemorating presidents James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. It additionally came with a 2008 Sacagawea Golden Dollar.

In 2009, it was first announced that the 2009 proof and uncirculated Eagle versions were going to be temporarily suspended. However, some time after it was announced that rather than them being temporarily put on hold, they were not going to be produced at all. This was due to the availability of silver bullion. According to the United States Mint, public law requires that United States American Silver Eagle bullion coins are produced in quantities that meet public demand. The demand for bullion coins has been so great that the silver bullion banks are being used to produce those coins.

The growing popularity of the American Silver Eagles are evident. In 1985 Congress authorized the American Eagle Bullion Program. The American Eagle Bullion Program passed law that silver and gold bullion coins would be produced and guaranteed by the United States government. Hence, buyers could be reassured that the coins' weight, content and purity was secured by the government when they made their purchases. It is also protected by law that the American Eagles can be used to fund Investment Retirement Accounts.

Despite the fact that the American Eagles are a secure investment, the coins are also an absolute beauty with stunning artistry. For these coins, the beloved design of the Walking Liberty created by Adolph A. Weinman is used. This breath-taking design was first used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1917 to 1947. The opposing side has a symbol of the strength of the United States with a heraldic eagle and shield designed by John Mercanti. The American Silver Eagle coins are made of .999 pure silver, weighing one troy ounce. They also have a trace amount of copper to increase the coins durability.

For those interested in purchasing the American Silver Eagle coin, they can be found through sellers that are authorized by the United States Mint. These coins are not available directly to the public. The Eagles can be purchased separately, in individual 20-coin rolls or in "Monster Boxes". "Monster Boxes" are green boxes that have 25 tubes of 20 coin rolls. When purchasing by roll, the buyer will find the rolls have a distinctive green top with the seal of the United States Treasury. Which ever way one determines he or she will purchase the coins, the premium cost per coin will always be less when purchased in bulk versus individually.

Many investors find that collectible Silver Coin Proof editions are a unique and exciting way to add physical silver to their portfolios. James Kirkwood enjoys writing articles on silver bullion coins, including Proof Silver Eagle information for fellow enthusiasts.

Have a great day!

The United States Mint officially released the American Silver Eagle Coin on November 24, 1986. It is the only eagle coin offered in only one denomination, which is the one ounce size. It has a face value of $1 and is 1.598 inches in diameter.

These rare coins were given a face value of one dollar basically to protect it from various counterfeiting laws and this value was low enough to ensure they would never actually be in market circulation. The one dollar face value also holds sentimental appeal to those who remember the circulating silver dollars of long ago.

The American Silver Eagle coins, which are also known as American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, are the only official investment-grade silver bullion coins whose weight, content, and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government. The Liberty Coin Act became Public Law: 99-61 on July 9, 1985 and amended federal law to direct the Secretary of Treasury to issue the one dollar silver bullion coins of specified size, weight, design and quantities through the United States Mint.

During the release ceremony for the American Silver Eagle coins on October 29, 1986, the Secretary of the Treasury, James Baker III, stated that these coins would provide investors with high qualities of silver, which will be a source of pride and enjoyment for the owner.

The American Silver Eagle coins contains exactly one ounce of .999 fine silver with an additional 0.0007 copper giving it a gross weight of 31.101 grams, and containing exactly one ounce of silver. The exact quantity and quality published officially give a kind of special guarantee to the buyers.

The legislation that originally authorized the American Gold Eagle coins had omitted any reference to a silver issue. Therein lies the big difference between the two. However, this was ultimately corrected with a second bill passed that same day on December 17, 1985.

Gold coins have always been a favorite of collectors. That attitude is aided by the assurance that gold coins are a sure offset to financial risks and a guarantee against inflation. They will surely increase portfolio returns as well in any market.

Another special characteristic of the Gold Eagle Coins is their artistic beauty and their historical significance. The most valuable gold coins are those minted before 1933. Of them, perhaps the most charming one is the $20 gold Double Eagle, first minted in 1907.

Now let us look at the peculiarities of American Platinum Eagle Coins. Their features are changed every year and as a result of these changes the design shows an entirely new look. The design we find on the reverse side is different in certain respects from the one on the obverse.

The wonderful platinum coins have been designed by John M Mercanti. On every such coin we find the inscription "Liberty" and the motto "In God We Trust." These are found on both sides and the date too is provided. There have been special series like the "Vistas of Liberty" series of 1998-2002.

Have you not compared the special features of the silver coins with two other famous coins? Now the decision is yours. Make sure that you go for quality and artistic value.

You have decided to invest in silver to diversify your holdings and help secure a better financial future. Now what? Getting started is sometimes the hardest part, so here are some excellent tips to help you on your way.

The first question many people ask is, "What do I do now? What do I buy?" A good answer to those questions is Silver Eagle coins. These are among the most popular coins in the United States and can help you build a solid investment.

The advantages of Silver Eagles are that they are generally easily accessible and will provide a reliable, tangible asset. Before investing, keep these five keys to keep in mind:

Check the reliability of your sources. Make sure that whomever you buy from can verify the coin's silver content with proper documentation. Buying an item that you later find out has little or no silver is a waste of time and money.

Be aware of what you are purchasing. Official Silver Eagles have a face value of $1.00 and have a .999 silver content. The US Mint issues coins with a lower mintage value, so make sure you are getting the official Eagle.

Know what the current silver price is so you know your upper purchase limits. Silver Eagles are "numismatic," which means that their true value often exceeds the face value. Therefore, you can pay $4.00 or more for an Eagle even though the face value is $1.00.

Look for Silver Eagles from previous years or silver rounds that have been minted privately. These are often less expensive but contain the same amounts of silver. But again, be sure to have that verified before you purchase.

If you want a Silver Eagle, refer to it as a Silver Eagle. If you say you want a silver dollar with a face value of $1.00, you will end up with an older coin minted from 1878 to 1904 or from 1921 to 1935. Be as specific as you can with your request and know the differences between coins.

Uncirculated coins net more refined silver and are worth more to investors and collectors. If you have invested in silver, make sure to protect it from scratches, wear, and rusting to ensure it retains its value (or gains value).

The next step is to download our Free Guide and see how to start investing in silver coins today. This guide will answer all your questions and help you begin this worthwhile and profitable investment.

Silver bullion bars have seen a staggering increase in investments over the last five years. This form of silver investing is popular because the bars are uniform in size, making them both easy to handle and easy to store, and they are compact, making it easy for investors to store a great amount of bars in a small space. In addition, they are easy to liquidate because they have universally recognized hallmarks. Industry standard silver bullion bars are.999 fine, or 99% pure, and each bar is available in the immensely popular 100 ounce size, the next popular 10 ounce size, in the less popular 1 ounce size, or in an IRA-recommended 1,000 ounce rectangle.

Those who purchase 100-ounce silver bullion rectangles usually ignore the survival aspect of this asset, purchasing it instead as an inflation hedge or as an investment. This is because even though the rectangular bars are easy to transport and store, they are not easy to carry around and pay for goods and services with. Thus, those purchasing bullion usually intend to protect against the inflation aspect of paper money or as an investment for retirement or other such future financial goal. Such guards are reasons why individuals choose silver bullion bars over other forms of U.S. currency coins as investment tools.

In today's market, silver investments are about fifty times the bulk and weight of the same investments in gold. So, for larger investments of over $10,000 there are more reasonable precious metal investment options. For amounts smaller than $10,000, likewise there are options that are more reasonable available.

American Silver Eagle coins are the official one-dollar coins of the United States Mint. Because of their single dollar denomination, investors sometimes refer to them as American Eagle silver dollars.

Introduced in 1986, there have been over 165 million Silver Eagle coins minted in the United States, making them the most successful United States Mint silver bullion coins in history.

Minted from.999 fine silver bullion and weighing a single ounce, Silver Eagle coins carry a symbolic $1 face value, making them silver dollars. Due to their single dollar face value, these coins are official legal tender, meaning they are acceptable as payment in any state in the union. Federal law permits the United States Mint to produce Silver Eagle coins as "numismatic", meaning they are also collectible coins, allowing the Mint to sell them at prices over their single dollar face value. This is why ads on television sell them for $30 apiece to collectors.

It is imperative that, whether purchased as collectors' items or as a form of legal tender, that the buyer patronizes a reputable source. Safe purchase of Silver Eagle coins includes taking precautions such as ordering by telephone to lock in at accurate prices, and that the exchange of monies takes place within 24 hours of the complete sale. Ensuring that safe shipping takes place is also paramount. Look for institutions that ship via insured US mail or UPS, with reliable tracking options. Researching the intended company is also a wise choice. Many respectable institutions provide references that clients can contact in order to find out what type of organization they are and how they do business. Also important is client confidentiality. A safe institution will guarantee that they do not share or sell their clients' information to any third parties, and that all payment information remains in the closest of confidentialities. Institutions that go the extra mile do not put client names or other pertinent information on invoices, nor do they computerize transactions.

Investors cannot be too careful with their money in today's turbulent economy, and investing in precious metals such as silver bullion bars and Silver Eagle coins is a wise decision indeed.
