Question by : Investing in silver. Tips and advice?
Hi, i'm 17 years old and i want to get into buying silver. I have done a lot of research and am fully convinced that its what i want to do. Id rather put my money into my future rather than clothes or electronics. I don't have much money right now so gold is out of the question. I have enough money right now for about 3 or 4 ounces. Im thinking of starting out with American Silver Eagles or Canadian Silver Maples. Any tips on where to buy from? Gainsville coins seems like they have a good deal on 1 oz coins. Apmex is slightly more expensive but that can add up. Also, any tips on books or websites where i can learn more? Thanks in advance!

I use APMEX to buy precious metals. They do not require a minimum purchase and they usually have American Eagles and Canadian Maples on hand. Some other sites will have your items on backorder for over 3 months because they do not have the silver on hand.

Gold and silver are good investments to make but don't expect to make much money on them right away. They are a safe investment and will always have the same value in terms of buying power regardless of factors that effect the value of the dollar such as inflation. These metals are used more as a safeguard against economic crisis.

It seems like you know what you are doing. If you are going to buy do it as soon as you can. The price will only go up over time.

Question by : What gold and silver stocks would you recommend at this time?
I would like to invest $ 20,000 in them. What stocks would you recommend at this time? I
also would like to buy some physical gold and some physical silver. In physical silver, which
is a better investment Pre (1964 90% silver coins) or( American Silver Eagles .999% pure silver).
Pre 1964 coins do have numismatic value in them but less silver content. Finally, what percent would you invest $ 13,000 in gold vs. silver stocks. THANK YOU/ THANK YOU for taking time to read and answer my questions. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

GLD ETF for gold and SLV ETF for silver. Both track the move of their corresponding metal. Would avoid numismatic coins for they have a too wide spread on them. You can buy the Gold ETF GLD through your stock broker that is selling for 1/10 of the price of gold per share or around $ 135-138 per share and also the SLV ETF through your broker.

You can buy non-numismatics type gold coins such as American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, South African Krugerrands, China Panda, etc. through a reputable coin dealer. You can check the current spot price via http://www.kitco.com/charts/livegold.htm… and then call the dealer for a quote on the coin to see if their spread is wide or narrow.

If buying silver non-numismatics coins from a coin dealer, check http://www.kitco.com/charts/livesilver.h… for the current spot silver prices before just calling the dealer for a quote on that 1 oz. silver coin. Silver coins can be American silver eagles, Silver Chinese Pandas, Canadian Maple Leafs, Australian Kookaburras, Koalas, and Lunars.

The percentage allocation is your personal preference. You may want to buy them over time as prices for both are at their highs and you do not want to buy all at the peak.

Q&A: Silver precious metal plane?

Question by captn: Silver precious metal plane?
Ok so this may sound rather like an odd question BUT... i am about to move to france for 2.5 months and my finance during that time will be a mix of euros and silver selling. I have about 75 ounces give or take an ounce or two of purebullion silver here in the US. I have rounds... American silver eagles.. maple leafs... .999 reproductions. I WANT TO KNOW... how I take them on the plane when I move to paris. If I go through the metal detector with 20 silver eagles in my pocket I have a feeling it might not go so well... but I am wary of checking my bag... 75 ounces is thousands of dollars in silver...should I just send it through the mail to wear IM going? should I take it in a carry on and deal with the TSA when I get there? put them in mint tubes before I deal with security? how should I do this?

It's fine to bring in your carry on luggage, just make sure you declare the silver and coins if the value is $ 10,000 or more. You'll need to fill out a currency declaration form if the value is $ 10,000 or more, if you don't the coins can be seized. Whatever you do, don't try to go through a metal detector or scanner with coins in your pockets or on your person.
