Does the condition of a bullion coin affect its value?
Question by : Does the condition of a bullion coin affect its value?
I have a 1987 American Silver Eagle, it is in pretty bad condition, scratches all over, dirt around the edges, dents, you name it, it has it. So I was thinking of selling some of my silver, and on the list to sell is my Silver Eagle, I was wondering if the dents and dirt and scratches will affect what I get for it. Anything would help, thank you.

Although some people do collect the silver eagle series most view them as bullion pieces. A beat up piece like yours will have no collector value but the condition of the coin should have no affect on the melt value of the piece. The price of silver today is around $ 18.20 per ounce.

Does cleaning bullion silver coins degrade their value?
Question by : Does cleaning bullion silver coins degrade their value?
I was curious to know if cleaning bullion silver such as the American Eagle and Canadian silver dollars lowers the value of the coins. I know on other older coins cleaning them drops their value considerably.
Thank you.

It does. You would think that nobody would care, because bullion is bullion. But the fact is that bullion coins like the Eagles and Maple Leafs sell for a slight to large premium over spot market prices, depending on the year. For example, the 1996 Eagles saw the lowest production of any year in the series, just 3.6 million bullion coins (non-proof), compared to over 30 million in 2009 and 20 million in 2008. Cleaning a 1996 turns it into a coin that a collector won't want, and a bullion investor will pay no premium at all for, in fact, offer below spot for.

What is the value of a 10 ounce silver coin with an eagle on front and blank back?
Question by Jas: What is the value of a 10 ounce silver coin with an eagle on front and blank back?
The front of the coin has an american eagle holding a banner in its mouth that reads 10 ounces .999 fine silver. The eagle is standing on what looks like an earlier version of the american flag and there are some weird symbols at the bottom i cant even begin to describe. The also appears 4 stars to the right of the eagle. On the back, there is only the words TEN OUNCES .999 FINE SILVER along the top and nothing else. There is no picture on the back. I've looked everywhere and can't find anything on this coin.

That coin has no numismatic value. Silver is a little over $ 17, so it is worth about $ 170.
